Before you publish an Odoo app: a pre-release checklist

A module that installs cleanly and explains itself sells better and gets fewer support emails.

Manifest

{
    'name': 'My Module',
    'version': '17.0.1.0.0',
    'summary': 'One line, what it does',
    'author': 'Your Name',
    'license': 'LGPL-3',
    'depends': ['base'],
    'data': ['security/ir.model.access.csv', 'views/x_views.xml'],
    'images': ['static/description/banner.png'],
    'application': False,
    'installable': True,
}

Use a version that starts with the Odoo series (17.0.x.y.z). Declare every dependency you really use, and no more.

Files

  • security/ir.model.access.csv for every new model
  • static/description/icon.png and index.html (the store page)
  • No demo data in data, put it in demo

Clean install test

Create an empty database, install only your module and its dependencies, then open each new screen. Then uninstall it and check nothing is left behind.

Store page

State what problem it solves in the first paragraph, show 3 screenshots, and list supported versions honestly. Answer questions quickly. Early reviews matter a lot.
